The platform is rolling out a new feature that allows them to reduce the quantity of AI-created media appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the company announced that it presently contains more than 1 thousand million AI-generated clips.
Testing and Rollout
This change is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a full-scale release. This advancement aligns with a surge in AI content, spurred by emerging AI video creators.
The Broader AI Trend
Studies have shown that nearly 10% of the most rapidly expanding video streams on another major platform only show content made by AI. A significant portion of this output is deemed low-quality AI content, a term for poor-quality, mass-produced content that is typically absurd or surreal.
“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content created using AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to informative clips, and we want to provide users the power to adjust the amount of that, according to their own choices,” commented a company executive.
Scale of AI Content
The platform shared that there are currently over a billion videos on its app labeled as artificially created. In total, in excess of 100 million videos are uploaded to the platform each day, making clips made by AI a relatively small portion of its complete catalog.
How to Adjust Settings
Members will be in a position to reduce or increase the volume of AI content they watch by opening the “manage topic” setting in the platform and selecting the AI content topic. Further subjects that can already be modified under the filter cover news, style, cosmetics, and movement.
Platform Guidelines
Its policies require content makers to tag convincing AI-generated content, and it bans harmful AI impersonations of celebrities or emergencies. Any believable AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be removed under its community policies.
Furthermore, the platform will now add an “AI-made” tag to content produced via its own AI tools, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for identifying artificial media. This action is aimed to deter users from attempting to circumvent the disclosure requirement.
AI Literacy Programs
TikTok is furthermore establishing a two million dollar educational fund for experts and institutions to develop learning resources about using AI responsibly. This initiative will assist charitable organizations dedicated to teaching coding and technology.
Content Safety Approach

It is set to reduce a significant number of roles in its user protection team in the UK capital, with labor groups and internet security professionals voicing alarm that humans are being replaced by automated systems.
A senior executive explained that people-led review would continue to be important, but AI can protect employees by removing the most harmful content before it has to be seen by staff. The company announced a notable drop in disturbing and violent content reviewed by content reviewers over the previous year due to intervention by its machine learning processes.
“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we also think it’s very important to minimize viewing of harmful content as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference operate efficiently.”
