Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay Technology This Season.

The Championships court with replay system

The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing replay technology.

Video review systems will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Competitors are granted the ability to contest specific rulings from the official, following the system already in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.

The new system is slated for use on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This development comes just a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line officials.

Scope of Challenges

Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review specific decisions, such as:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or person on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a point.

Notably, there will be no cap on the amount of reviews a player can request.

A Recent Example

A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was responsible for interference, granting the rally to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology are not new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where the crowd have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was out or in.

Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
